The El Paso County Conservation District has reviewed this project and we would like to make the following recommendations: 1) Erosion Control We appreciate the detail that was put into their plans about the size of area and plans to use native seed when they go to revegetate the shown areas. EPCCD would like to make some additional suggestions that will help with preventing erosion and improve revegetation success. A) Disturbed areas be mulched and revegetated within 45 days of disturbance using the plant/grass species native and/or naturalized to El Paso County as they mentioned. B) Disturbed areas should be either: mulched after seeding with weed-free hay or straw mulch at approximately 5,000 lbs per acre due to the exposed site and its proneness to wind erosion; Or if applicable, can be mulched with woodchips from onsite tree removal and forest mitigation to a depth of 1-2" deep. C) If the applicant needs a good source of grass seed, we invite them to consider using of the El Paso County Conservation District’s Native Shotgun Mix (available at EPCCD.org) for reseeding, which is well suited to soils present on this site and is comprised of 100% native and naturalized grass species. If these measures are added to the project's plan, then the El Paso County Conservation District will be content with the applicant's added commitment to soil conservation and erosion prevention. For any questions, please feel free to contact the EPCCD at 719-600-4706 or districtmanager@epccd.org |
