Below are the review comments received from the County Engineer for the District 40 Londonderry Elementary School Signing and Striping Plans. From discussions with Jeff Hodsdon, he is preparing the signage/striping plans for Towner Avenue. If possible I would recommend that the Londonderry Drive and Towner Avenue striping plans be combined under a single signage and striping plans.

Sheet 1
• Remove general note 1 reference to detail S-614-40 and 614-42 since a traffic signal is not being constructed.
• Update general note 2 reference to the newer 2017 standard specifications.
• Remove general notes 10 and 11 since a traffic signal is not being constructed.
• Replace the Design Engineer’s Statement with the El Paso County Standard Signature Block.

Sheet 2
• Update Signage and Striping Note 9 to clarify the retroreflective sheeting background material type that at a minimum, ASTM 4956 Type IV shall be used for ground mount signs.
• Update Signing and Striping Note 11 by replacing the following:
o “tapered leading edges” with “approach edge tapering”.
o “Word and symbol markings shall be the narrow type” with “Arrow pavement markings shall be the optional MUTCD narrow elongated design.”
o Replace the crosswalk sentence with “Continental crosswalk line shall be 12 inches wide and at least 8 foot long, per CDOT S-627-1.
• Replace Signing and Striping Note 12 with “Longitudinal line pavement markings shall be in conformance with CDOT Standard Specifications Section 627 Pavement Marking and CDOT Standard Plan, S-627-1 Pavement Markings.”
• Replace “Public Service Department (PSD)” with “Department of Public Works (DPW)”.

Sheet 3
• Relocate the proposed school crossing from the east side of the Tottenham Ct intersection to the west side and install a raised median refuge island. Provide in-street signing in the median pedestrian refuge area consistent with MUTCD Figure 7B-2 and 7B-4.
• Increase the width of the center median from 12 ft to 14-16 feet in order to maximize the width of a proposed raised median pedestrian refuge island and still permit 12 ft travel lanes.
• Extend the center two-way left turn lane further east to Meridian Road to be consistent along the roadway and this removes the need for the WB redirect approach taper.
• Restripe the WBLT at the Londonderry Avenue intersection to a designated WB left turn and taper with two arrows per CDOT S-627-1 Sheet 5 since this is a public intersection.
• Per signing and striping note 11 & 12 revise the crosswalk bars callout from 2’x10’ to 1’x8’.
• Rather than a designated reduced school speed limit school zone with active devices, replace with fines double designated school zone.

Will the proposed signage and striping for Towner be included with the resubmittal or as a separate submittal at a later date?

If school signage/striping on Towner is anticipated to not be part of this plan set, then add a note on the Site Development Plan (Sheet C1.1) that access permit from Towner Avenue will not be granted until approved signage/striping plans along Towner Avenue are submitted.

Regarding a request for a site development plan for a new school at 11243 Londonderry Dr, Enumerations has the following comments:

1. Since the parent/visitor access to the new school building is on the Londonderry Dr. side of the property, the use of the previously assigned address of 11243 Londonderry Dr. is appropriate.

Floodplain has no comment of objection to this submittal.
